USA's Unoriginal Success'

This is a list of TV shows, movies, and games that have been bastardized by the US. They may call them remakes, or adaptions, and my even be done with the permission of the original authors, but that doesn't make them any less unoriginal.

Three's Company was originally a British sitcom called 'Man About The House' from 1973, which spawned two spin-offs that were also adapted for American television. Britains 'Robin's Nest' was adapted as USA's 'Threes A Crowd', and Britains 'George & Mildred' turned into 'The Ropers'.

Sanford and Son is a 1974 remake of a British sitcom called 'Steptoe and Son' from 1972.

All in the Family is a 1971 remake of Britains 'Till Death Us Do Part from 1965.

Antiques Roadshow has been a show in the UK since 1979, but is now keeping both the American elderly and it's stoned youth glued to their TV's.

Operation Repo is a SCRIPTED reroduction of Telemundo's Operacion Repo. Even though it's shown on REAL TV, it's fully scripted and performed by actors.

Ugly Betty was a Columbian soap opera from 1999 called Yo soy Betty, la fea, which has found itself remade in more than a dozen countries.

The Office started out in the UK, and aside from being adapted by us, has since found its way to France and Brazil.

The Grudge is a movie we stole from Japan, called Ju-On, and we didn't even steal the original, we took the third installment in a trilogy.

The Ring is another movie we stole from Japan, called Ringu which is also the highest grossing horror movie ever made by the Japanese.

Super Mario Brothers 2 Yes we all know great games come from Japan, but for some reason the REAL SMB2 wasn't realeased in the US initially, instead we took the game Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and replaced their characters with some familiar Mario characters. The real SMB2 was eventually released in the US as 'The Lost Levels' and the bastardized version of Doki Doki was released in Japan as Super Mario USA. This totally explains why I've always hated SMB2, it's not really a Mario game. HA!

Who's Line Is It, Anyway? was a UK improv show from 1988, first a British radio program, that found its way to being raped by Drew Carey as the US versions host in 1998.

American Idol was originally a British series called Pop Idol from 2001, which has found itself remade more that two dozen times in just as many countries.

Hell's Kitchen is a British cooking show from 2004 which found itself remade by us in 2005.

Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares is another British cooking show from 2004 that was remade for America in 2007, and renamed simply 'Kitchen Nightmares'.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is yet another remade British show. The UK version debuted in 1998 while the US version appeared in 1999.

The Weakest Link also finds its origins in the UK. The original from 2000 was remade in the US in 2001.

Dancing With The Stars is a remake of the British show 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
